In 2011, we live in a fast paced World. If you ride BMX, and are either sponsored, or are looking to get sponsored, you will need to do more than just Barspins and Tailwhips to make a mark. With Facebook and Twitter running the Internet along with Youtube and Vimeo, getting yourself out there is not only easy, it is also crucial if you want to stay in the game. My suggestion to Riders out there is to get some basic tools needed to kick ass. A good laptop computer with basic video editing software, a DSLR camera and a decent HD Video Camera is what you will need. Then you wont ever have to use the excuse of..."Man, I did the sickest line ever yesterday that has never been done before, but I didnt get it on film"

I have always just done things myself and created media because then there is no excuse. Have fun with it. Ride your bike, film, shoot photos, edit, Blog, Tweet, Facebook, answer emails, its all part of BMX these days and maybe you will realize you really love filming or shooting photos to broaden your Horizons. What's up Snafu dudes. Wanted to give a quick update on what's been going on. Work and riding have been amazing. Either I have been out of town or out at home being productive in many ways. Just got done filming a Hoffman edit which everyone was psyched on and I appreciate that. Throwing the Kashiwa brakeless rims though the ringer, which have been holding up awesome.

Also just got back from a rad trip to Denver with some of the Hoffman dudes.

Adam has recruited the services of SNAFU Pro Phil Sundbaum to manage content for TCUMTB, and Phil has a discerning eye for what's cool and relevant in the 26-inch scene.

Adam and Phil have big plans for TCUMTB moving forward, including some cool events and cross-promotions that SNAFU will surely be a part of when things unfold.

I've always been an advocate of putting more "MX" into BMX. The sport's roots are closer to motocross than they ever were to skateboarding, so I never understood why BMXer's started (begrudgingly) wearing Pro-Tec pudding bowls instead of open-face skid lids.
I'm involved with another company called Biltwell. Biltwell is a chopper parts company, but we introduced a novelty (non-DOT approved) open face helmet five years ago because these are the kind of helmets dudes wore in the 1970's when the whole chopper aesthetic was being defined.

Brian Foster is a friend and has been one of my BMX heroes since I met him at the POW house in the late 1980's. Brian's moto roots run as deep as my own, and we have been on many MX adventures together when he lived in SoCal.

With all the head trauma and physical injuries Brian's teammates and BMX friends have suffered in recent years. Brian decided to switch lids. Brian hit me up for a Biltwell DOT and non-DOT helmet a couple weeks ago, and he debuted his new look at the Nike Pool Event in England.

Well, Brian did us a solid by winning Best Trick at Nike's event in a matte black model of our non-DOT approved open face. Five days later, a British BMX distributor asked about selling Biltwell helmets to bike riders. According to friends, Brian said wearing our open face helmet him feel a little safer. I reminded Brian our non-DOT helmet offers NO safety compared to DOT-approved helmets, but he preferred the fit and the comfort of this model over Biltwell's DOT-approved Hustler model that I also gave him.

Nike 6.0 is doing something called The Pool. It is going to be awesome. Jeremiah Smith was chosen by team Captain Dennis Enarson.

Heres info on the event:

It's been a bit of a secret for a while but it's all starting to make sense now. Nike 6.0 have taken over a swimmingpool in Dagenham, UK that is being transformed into a ramp park at the moment for the Nike Pool event this weekend. 10 team captains were given the freedom to pick three riders each to come shred at the pool. The place will be open for riding afterwards for some time before the place gets demolished but the opening event will have very limited spots for people to attend.

€ 12.000 euros will be rewarded tot he winning team with € 1000 for Best Trick, Best Line and Best Rider of the event. The line up is amazing. Take a look at the teams. FATBMX will be there so come back for more starting on Thursday evening.

BMX on Parade… in Chopperland

A french bike builder-cum-blogger named Cyril Huze recently showcased 2011 SNAFU colorways to suggest the direction chopper builders might be heading with colors and finishes in the future. I find this interesting only because the motorcycle scene has historically been the place where bicycle designers have turned for their inspiration. Consider BMX in general, and the goofy chopper bikes and Harley-themed beach cruisers in more recent times.

I'm leaving for Taiwan this evening to meet with SNAFU distributors from Canada, Australia, USA and South Africa, where I'll be showing these friends and customers our summer colorways for the first time. Our team riders played a big part in these color selections months ago, and the guys can't wait to build new bikes with the latest products and colors.

At times I have been resistant to the "change for change's sake" nature of the color wars in BMX, but lately I said "screw it" and learned to go with the flow. Shops don't complain about stocking colors like they used to. In fact, most dealers and wholesalers can't get new colors fast enough. Today I really enjoy designing new parts and new colorways, and I think this summer's array is our best ever. Our riders and a handful of underground bike builders I've shown them to agree with me, so I think it's going to be a good year.

Thanks Beard, Jeremie, Mikey, Jourdan and other guys on the team for helping with designs and colorways this year, and thanks to Cyril Huze for exposing the ass clowns who read your motorcycle blog to a new scene.

The official first day of Spring is just 6 days away. Daylight Savings Time just began and the weather is starting to get a little warmer. Once again the long hours at the Trails will begin. It seems as if a lot more time goes into working on the jumps rather than actual riding time, but that is OK. Ride BMX does a great job of featuring original product-oriented content, which is something I've been hounding BMX media to do for decades. I don't know when magazines (and later websites) decided riders don't care about products, but I think it was around the same time road trips became popular. With photographers and editors going on the road with their bro's all the time, nobody had the time or interest to teach readers about products. Ride's getting back in the tech game, and I love it.
